108 staff stir put off

108-AMBULANCEThe proposed strike by the staff of 108 has been postponed with some improvement in the discussions held between the staff and EMRI-GVK company. Ajay, joint commissioner, labour department, decided for another meeting for talks. Narayana and Roop Singh, representatives of 108 and Ajay earlier held discussions. But leaders made clear that they would decide on May 13, about their strike in case the management did not agree to meet their demands. They demanded reinstatement of 70 employees, a minimum salary of Rs 20,000 and job security. Leaders of 108 said that the management was harassing the staff. However, the joint commissioner now agreed to examine details of staff who were dismissed. On the other, representatives of EMRI-GVK said that they were implementing minimum wages act and that dismissal of staff was made based on disciplinary action.
