11 died in Himachal due to heavy rain

himachalIn several incidents of landslides, cloudburst and flood atleast 11 people died in Himachal Pradesh as heavy rain continues to lash the hills in the state.

Four people have been reported to be washed away from Nadaun on Friday while three deaths occurred in Bilaspur as a car gets washed away. The traffic of Shimla-Dharamsala highway has been suspended due to landslides.

Shimla, Solan, Hamirupur, Una, Chamba and Mandi are the worst affected areas in the state.

In an incident of cloudburst in Dehra area of Kangra, about half a dozen cowsheds were damaged but no loss to human life is reported.

All major rivers and their tributaries in Himachal Pradesh are in spate as moderate to heavy rain continues to lash the hills in the state, said officials.”Precipitation occurred at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kangra, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba and Mandi districts,” said an official of the Met office. The monsoon will be subdued Aug 17 to Aug 22, the official added.
