13 police killed in in Egypt rocket attack

rocketAt least 13 Egyptian police died Saturday when a rocket hit a control post on a highway outside the city of Al-Arish, the provincial capital of North Sinai. In a communique, Egypt’s Interior Ministry reported that the victims were two officers, a policeman and 10 recruits, without revealing their identities. According to the note, a Hawk surface-to-air missile was used in the attack, and the control post was located on the beltway around Al-Arish, the main city of North Sinai, near Egypt’s border with the Gaza Strip. Attacks against control posts of the Egyptian police and army are frequent in this region where armed radical groups operate, including the Egyptian subsidiary of the jihadist Islamic State (IS), which calls itself Wilayat Sinai.
