According to the data till October this year, shows that 1856 cases were booked in both the states i.e., united AP, for crimes against senior citizens.
Further analysis shows that the police have failed to deliver on the advisory issued by MHA for safeguarding the senior citizens. Keeping in mind the vulnerability and susceptibility the MHA had issued an advisory ordering the police to follow a number of precautionary measures. Some of the measures include identification of senior citizens under each police station limit, setting up of toll free number for complaints and other.
According to the statistics most of the crimes against senior citizens were conducted by the acquaintances of the victims. Only 42.94 per cent of cases were committed by the people unknown to the victims, the offenders in the remaining cases were known to the victims.
Location of residence, previous victimization and defensibility is said to be the prime source for the offences.
