Naseer Ahmed Pandit had joined militant ranks after deserting police force last year. He was posted on security duty at the residence of PDP MLA and then worked with then works minister and PDP leader Syed Altaf Bukhari at the time of quitting the force. His accomplice killed in the gun battle has been identified as Waseem Malla alias Inam-ul-Haq. Both were wanted militants of the Hizb, police said.
Amid chanting of pro-freedom slogans, a group of unnamed Hizb militants arrived at Karimabad, Pandit’s home village, and when his body was placed on a makeshift pedestal they fired their guns in the air to give him what they said was a 21-gun salute.
