The South Indian political stalwart famously known as ‘Amma’ was earlier convicted by the special court in Bangalore in a 18-year old case of owning disproportionate property.
Jaya’s close aides and relatives have also been convicted and sentenced for jail by the special court. The sentence was ordered by the special judge Michael D’Cunha. Jaya was found guilty of holding Rs. 66.65 Crore property more than the income of all known sources in 1996.
500 party workers have been arrested by the Bangalore police to control the law and order outside the court.
Jayalalithaa has to resign from the post.
