45 Members of Parliament belonging to Jayalalithaa’s party AIADMK observed fast in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in the Parliament complex. The fast is held with the demand to deliver justice to the party chief and the former CM of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa.
The fast started at 10 am and would continue till 5 pm.
AIADMK parliamentary party leader P Venugopal is leading the fast protest.
Venugopal asked that why there is a delay in hearing her bail plea. He demanded that Jayalalithaa be granted immediate relief as per law.
Venugopal added, “The aim of the fast is to draw the nation’s attention to the delay in granting bail to our leader. The judgement was given on Saturday, which was followed by Dussehra holidays”.
Jayalalithaa, famously known as Amma, is convicted in a disproportionate assets case and has been sent to jail for a four-year term by a special court in Bangalore. She has also been imposed a fine of Rs 100 Crore.
