Six civilians were killed and 15 injured seriously when Pakistani rangers resorted to mortar firing on J & K villages. The BSF retaliated but villagers were panic-stricken and did not venture to come out even for performing last rites of the victims. The army began evacuating the villagers to safer places. In Balkot area in Poonch district, 30 villages came under the influence of Pak firing. Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit was summoned and informed about border violations.
