25 seats in Residual Andhra Pradesh, 15 seats in UP, 7 seats in Bihar, 6 seats in Bengal, 5 seats in Uttarakhand, 4 in Himachal Pradesh, 2 seats in Jammu and Kashmir; a total of 64 Lok Sabha seats spread across seven states are polling in the 8th penultimate phase of the World’s largest elections today. This phase marks the completion of polls for 502 seats in the 543 seats Lok Sabha. Rest of the 41 seats in Bihar, UP and West Bengal will poll on the 12th of May.
Rahul Gandhi, Ram Vilas Paswan, Rabri Devi, Beni Prasad Verma, Moon Moon Sen, Mohammad Kaif, BC Khanduri, Renuka Rawat, Prem Kumar Dhumal, Virbhadra Singh, Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chandra Babu Naidu and several other bigwigs will seal their fates in the EVMs today. A total of 897 candidates will seek the verdict of 9 crore, 55 lakh, and 22 thousand 471 voters will cast their votes in 2 lakh 9 thousand 430 polling booths using 3 lakh 83 thousand 650 EVMs.
Of the 64 seats, Congress had 34, BSP 5, TDP, BJP, CPI(M), JD(U) had 4 each in previous elections. Most eyes would focus on Seemandhra in this phase as it is polling for the maximum number of 25 seats along with 175 assembly seats. In the background of State division, BJP is trying to make in roads into the region with the support of ally TDP, where as it will be a make or break poll for Jagan’s YSRCP. Congress will be relegated to fighting for the third spot.
