A Feat of the Railways in 2014-15: 3,235 Meter Long Railway Tunnel Scooped Out

Untitled-15Northeast Frontier Railway officials said that, the 3,235 meter long railway tunnel, in the north east on the Lumding-Silchar broad gauge line in Assam has been scooped out. It was scooped out due to soil conditions of that area and geological issues.

NF Railway senior public relations officer, Alam said that, the tunnel is situated near New Haflong station building. It is considered as one of the most critical tunnel in the 210-km broad gauge track.

Chief Executive Administrative Officer Ajit Pandit, Chief Engineer R K Ginger and others inspected the tunnel yesterday.

The construction of this tunnel started in the year 2005 but it couldn’t continue due to the geological conditions. From 2012 the work resumed and was opened today.
