“A BJP worker unfurling the flag at the Red Fort was a big high for party workers”, said the party president Amit Shah today. He was referring to the prime minister Narendra Modi who made his maiden speech from Red Fort, New Delhi.
Amit Shah also noted differences between Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi. Mr. Vajpayee was the first from BJP to hoist the flag at Red Fort.
Mr Shah said, “Atal Bihari Vajpayee also hoisted the flag as a BJP worker. But the difference between him and Narendrabhai is that the BJP government has a majority”.
Mr. Shah continued, “After a long time, a very good day has come for BJP workers”.
Amit Shah, a close aide of Modi, became the party president of ruling BJP last month and now he faces an immediate task of scripting the strategies for assembly elections due this year in four states.
All fours states – Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir – are ruled by members of the Congress-led UPA and Mr Shah has to rejuvenate party cadres there and also in Delhi, which has been under President’s rule since February and could see snap polls.
