AADHAR bill passed in Loksabha

AADHAR-billAfter passing the much-awaited Real Estate Bill in Rajya Sabha yesterday, the lower house of the Parliament passed the Aadhar Bill today. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tabled the legislation in Lok Sabha as a ‘money bill’ which does not need clearance from Rajya Sabha, where the ruling party lacks numbers. Once a Money Bill is passed by the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha or Upper House can only discuss it and not make amendments. It also has to discuss the bill immediately as a money bill, if not discussed within 14 days of being tabled in the Rajya Sabha, is “deemed passed”. Opposition protested against the Aadhar bill calling a totalitarian tool which allows the state to misuse the personal data of its citizens. However, Jaitley gave clarification. “If the state is collecting data of its citizens for their benefits, that does not mean that we are turning into a police state. Every day 5 to 7 lakh people are getting registered through Aadhaar. 97 per cent of the adult population is registered. This would allows us to completely plunge the leakages in the subsidy flow.” Said Mr.Jaitely
