Abu Hamza Al Masri, the Egyptian cleric who became a UK citizen and preached at the Finsbury Park Mosque in London, has been known for his fundamentalist muslim preaching and later was accused for inciting violence and terrorism in UK and US. He was arrested in 2004 in UK for kidnapping and killing seven persons in Yemen. The case went on for a long time, and he was extradited to US in 2012 for inciting violence there, by preaching for a jihad and for influencing in setting up a terror training camp in Oregon.
Facing 11 counts, Hamza was finally found by a US Court “Guilty” yesterday. The sentencing is yet to happen, but it would be nothing less than a “life sentence.” James Ujamaa, a Seattle based follower of Hamza, who set up the terror camp in Oregon turned government’s witness, and helped in the trial reaching its logical end.
Prosecutor Edward Kim told the court: “His cause was war and it was all consuming … his goal was simple and it was clear and it was vicious.”
Hamza lost one eye, and both his hands in a terror training camp. Hamza’s UK citizenship is expected to be cancelled when the sentence is pronounced. Hamza’s lawyers have declared that they will contest the decision.
