Ads Legends AGK No More

agkrishnamurthyA legendary figure in the field of advertisements Achyuta Gopalakrishna Murthy, popularly known as AGK breathed his last due to illness in Hyderabad on Friday. He is survived by three daughters and a son. Born on April 28, 1942 at Vinukonda, Guntur district, he influenced the field of advertising tremendously. He was a Bachelor of Arts from Andhra University and began his career with a petty job in Calico Textile Mills. He joined as accounts executive in Silpi Advertising in 1972. He worked with Reliance Industries as Manager of Advertising in 1976. He started an ads agency, Mudra Communications Limited as an associate unit of Reliance on March 25, 1980 and was its chairman and managing director. Mudra’s first ad was Vimal brand of Reliance. It’s ad campaign was ‘only Vimal.’ Later AGK’s Mudra was known throughout the country with the creative ads ‘I love you Rasna, Honest Shirt for Peter England and Jindagi ke saath bi jindagi ke baad bi for LIC. Mudra was instrumental in making Rasna number one brand in the country. AGK started Mudra Institute of Communications in 1991 to train youth in the field of advertising. He retired from Mudra in March, 2002 and started AGK Brand Consultancy in 2003. He was honoured with the awards  A&M Advertising Person of the Year in 1995 and AAA-1 Prem Narayan Award in 1999, for his yeoman services in the Advertising field. The Advertising Club of Culcatta placed him in its Hall of Fame. He also penned books on Dhirubhai Ambani, on personality development and advertising.
