After mangoes, “paan leaves” from India to be banned by EU?

The European Union has caused a stir recently by banning the alphonso mangoes from India, causing a huge loss to farmers of the country. Now news is that betel leaves used for “paan” by Asian living in their countries are being targeted by the EU to be banned on complaints that they are carrying salmonella bacteria and spreading digestive diseases. Paan leaves from Bangladesh are already banned. Another commodity being targeted is chilli peppers, as per reports.
