An event marking the anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru has stirred up Jawarharlal Nehur University in Delhi today. The student community was vertically split and ABVP, the BJP-affiliated union has taken out a massive rally protesting over the event. The university’s student union president Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested and slapped with a case of sedition and criminal conspiracy.
Mahesh Guru, BJP leader, Kumar Biswas, AAP MLA have condemned the event. Mahesh and some other ABVP leaders lodged a complaint in Vasanth Kunj police station and the case was registered under Section of 124 A (sedition) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
The centre warned of stern action against those who make anti-national statements. Home minister Rajnath Singh and HRD minister Smriti Iran found fault with the organizers of the event and said such things are unacceptable and the event managers are liable for action.
A group of students on Tuesday held an event on the JNU campus and allegedly shouted slogans against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru in 2013.
