Telangana state government has sought an airport at kothagudem. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has written to union minister for civil aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju on the importance of an airport at Kothagudem. Khammam district is among the furthest district from Hyderabad, it has substantial economic activity. The state government has identified land of 1,600 acres at punuguduchelaka near kothagudem for the air port, which is 240 km from Shamshabad.
Mr.Rao said in his letter, the CM said that the religious tourists would visit sri Sitaramanchandra swamy at Bhadrachalam and Parnasala and they will use the airport. Also, the staff of state and private organizations can use the proposed airport.
