Akhila Priya, daughter of late Shobha Nagi Reddy will now fight for to retrieve her mother’s seat.
In one of the most amazing situations during general elections in May this year, YSRCP candidate Shobha Nagi Reddy died in a road mishap just two weeks before the election. The election commission conducted the election without removing her name from the candidates’ list. Her name contested the elections, and to the surprise, people voted for her in large numbers. She defeated Gangula Prabhakar Reddy of TDP with a margin of 17,928 votes thus becoming the first ever candidate from the state to win posthumously.
Akhila Priya is an MBA graduate. YSRCP now hopes that TDP will not launch a candidate against Akhila as in the past, YSRCP did not nominated in Nandigram in a similar situation.
