International online major Amazon has announced that it is partnering with Catamaran Ventures, an investment firm formed by Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy. The joint venture, Catamaran having 51%, Amazon the rest to evade the FDI regulations, will aim offline small and medium businesses to go online and attract new clientele.
“Catamaran is partnering with Amazon Asia to offer services that help offline sellers and SMBs in India to get online and to take advantage of the fast-growing online customer base in the country,” ARN Swamy, head of Catamaran Ventures said in an official communique.
Amazon’s e-commerce initiative in India has been limited to back end operations, providing material to small businessmen, acting as a platform to joining other business holders on its site. The new operation could role out as early as next year, as per sources.
