Rohith man of the match
At last the Mumbai Indians lifted the IPL title after a hot chase right from the start and trouncing the Chennai Kings. Captain Rohit Sharma led the team with his half a century and entailed his side to achieve a memorable victory. The Chennai team won the toss in the finals and chose to field but they could not survive the assault launched by the Mumbai batsmen. Opener Parthiv was run out for no run but Rohith with another opener Semens showed their attack and made 119 runs. Semens with 68 runs and Rohith with 50 returned to the pavilion. Polard and Rayudu made 36 runs each. With a total of 202 runs for 5 wickets in20 overs, the Mumbai party offered a formidable challenge and a tiff competition to their opponents.
Chennai began a hot chase with a target of 203 runs and its bowlers Bravo took two wickers while Smith and Mohit took a wicket each. Mumbai bowler Maxnagan dismissed opener Hussi for four runs. Another opener Smith entered with Raina and tried to retrieve the situation but both were sent to the pavilion at a crucial hour. Smith made 57 runs while Raina made 28 runs. Dhoni with 18 runs, Trevo with 9, Negi at 3, Duplesses 1, Jadeja 11, Ashwin 2. Mohith with 21 runs reached pavilion in a desperate mood. In all they failed in their attempt but accumulated 161 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs when they were nearing the target and missed it by 41 runs. Mumbai bowlers Maxnagan took three wickets while Malinga and Harbajan claimed two wickets each. Vinay took one wicket. Skipper Rohit was declared the man of the match. In the beginning of the series the Mumbai team seems to have lost their ground initially. But later on it intensified its attack like a wounded tiger and displayed their masterly performance under Sachin, Ponting and Kumble direction and made short work of Chennai players to own the title a second time.
