The Union Government is all set to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014 after the state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana pointed out several glitches in the bill. M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said, We are trying our best to get the amendment passed in the current session. Otherwise it will be done in the Budget Session.”
M Venkaiah Naidu further said that he talked to Jairam Ramesh, former union minister and other floor leaders on the possible amendments.
The act was amended by Narendra Modi cabinet on May 28, 2014 in which seven mandals of the Telangana was attached to residuary Andhra Pradesh. The proposed amendment will be the first after the formation of the governments in both the states.
The possible amendments include to raise AP Legislative Council strength from 50 to 58, and several Rajya Sabha members will be adjusted among the states.
