Five Time World Chess Champion Vishwanathan Anand had won the Candidates Chess Tourney yesterday with one game to spare. He will now gets to challenge current world champion, Norway’s Magnus Carlsen for a rematch to reclaim his world champion crown which was taken from him late last year. The Challenges might happen any time after September this year. Anand has also won a cahs prize of 1,35,000 Euros, a little more than a Crore Rupees.
Anand had drawn his thirteenth round match against Sergei Karjakin of Russia. It was a marathon match lasting five and half hours. In other matches of the round, Kramnik took his revenge on Topalov who had beaten him in the early rounds. Top seeded Aronian had an upsetting loss facing the lowest ranking player of the tourney, Dmitry Andreikin. Svidler, Maedyarov match was a draw.
Anand stands on top with 8 points after the match; followed by Karjakin, Kramnik, Mamedyarov, Andreikin and Aronian at 6.5; Svidler is at 6 with Topalov tailing at 5.5. Anand will play Peter Svidler in the nominal last round.
