The people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have to feel the pain of paying extra initial amount to purchase LPG cylinder as the Centre has announced to enforce Modified Direct Benefit Transfer or MDBT scheme in both the Telugu States till May 14 next year.
Under this dual pricing scheme, customers have to pay the full non-subsidised amount to by a cylinder (Rs. 969 in Hyderabad) and the consumers who have linked Aadhaar-LPG-bank account will receive the subsidy amount in their bank accounts later.
The subsidy amount is Rs. 525 and the subsidised cost of cylinder is Rs. 444. Consumers will receive Rs. 525 later in their bank account.
Customers without Aadhaar-LPG-bank account link will get the cylinder at subsidised rate till Feb-14, and later they have to buy it at the non-subsidised rate. If they do not link up their Aadhaar and bank account with LPG, they will lose their subsidy till May 14, 2015.
Speaking on the critical scheme, Mr D. Ashok Kumar, president of Greater Hyderabad LPG Dealers Associa-tion said, “The dual pricing will be very confusing and will create problems for both gas agencies and consumers. It will be difficult to convince consumers with seeding to pay Rs 969 for a cylinder while those without seeding will pay only Rs 444. It would be better if uniform bills are issued to all till the seeding is done instead of adopting dual pricing”.
