AP Assembly passes resolution for SCS

For the second time in two years, the Andhra Pradesh assembly has passed a resolution today demanding the Centre to grant Special Category Status to the state. Though the Union government has indirectly expressed its inability to grant it due to the recommendations of 14th Finance Commission and also cited that the item has not found place in the AP Reorganization Act, the state continues to harp on it as it would help the state grow on par with other states at a faster pace.
YS Jaganmohan Reddy criticized the government ‘for lacking seriousness in pursuing the matter with the Centre’. He said- “Mr Naidu visits Delhi quite often but never broaches this topic with the central leadership. He has a different agenda. He says the state if facing severe crisis on economic front but will not raise the issue with the centre” Mr Jagan lambasted. He questioned the fate of the first resolution.
Chief minister N Chandrababu has rebutted the charges he has only one agenda i.e. taking people’s woes to the Centre. “I relentlessly struggle for people’s welfare. We never asked for bifurcation. Congress has divided the state for its own political gains. We were left with more debts and no income. I reiterate that it is the centre’s responsibility to lift us on all fronts. Mr Arun Jaitley has promised to help us on all fronts and he added that each and every aspect of the Bifurcation Act will be fulfilled. We have to be by their side to get some benefits. I request everyone-across party lines to support us in this endeavour” Mr Naidu said.
