Andhra Pradesh Police has stepped up their hunt for the top maoist leader RK alias Akkiraju Haragopal- as the Maoists gave a call for five-state bandh protesting against what they call as ‘inhuman killing of 31 maoists’ last week. RK was reportedly injured during a shootout with the elite anti-naxal grey hounds police. He was whisked away from the site by his personal body guards and his whereabouts were not known till date.
Civil liberties activists allege that RK is in police captivity but the AP police has informed High Court that he was not detained.
Intense combing has been going on in the agency areas of Andhra Odisha Border and several search parties have been searching for the leader in and around Malkangiri district. Several posters have been placed by the police with the photo of RK and urging the tribals to inform about his whereabouts. Police have also stepped up vigil in almost all the villages and sounded all police stations, NGOs and prominent people of the area.
Meanwhile, police have stepped up security for all the people’s representatives in the wake of bandh call.
