One of the most celebrated Bollywood musicians and singers, Bappi Lahiri has a huge fan following. But he needs a different kind of following in his new avatar as a politician. He is contesting his first polls, as a BJP candidate from Sri Rampur Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal. He is pulling his bollywood bandwagon to attract more crowds to his meetings and hopes that the turnout would result in more votes to him.
Now news is that bollywood’s muscle man, Salman Khan has agreed to campaign for the disco singer. Asha Bhonsle, who featured in many of the disco songs Bappida has sung, will also share stage with him. Asha’s sister, Lata Mangeshkar will also accompany her sister to support her colleague. Will they sing “Jawaani Jaaneman”, “Pyaar Manga Hai”, “Chalte Chalte”, or “Ooh La la” on the stage, or give lengthy political speeches urging for votes?
Bappida was recently in news for saying that even the gods cannot defeat him in the upcoming elections. Often criticised for his gold laden esoteric appearance, Bappida will have to appeal to people on a different level to charm the public on this new stage.
