A resolution has been passed in the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Wednesday unanimously requesting the Centre to implement Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme or MGNREGS in all rural blocks of the state.
The Assembly moved objections over the proposal to restrict the scheme to 2,500 blocks only across the nation. The new proposal finds out only 78 blocks in Telangana.
The resolution moved by IT and Panchayat Raj Minister KT Rama Rao received support from all the parties.
The Congress, TDP and others suggested the House to also pass a resolution urging MGNREGS be integrated with agriculture. The resolution has been modified and thus approved by the whole house.
The initial resolution saying “Telangana Assembly strongly protests” was later changed to “expresses its strong reservations” after an objection raised by K Laxman, floor leader of BJP.
