With an aim to strengthen the strategic ties between the two nations, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott reached Mumbai on Thursday morning on a two-day visit. A nuclear pact could also be signed between the two nations.
Mr Abbott will interact with business leaders and select Indian CEOs on his first day of visit. He will also attend the launch of Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan in India. He, along with Australian cricket greats Adam Gilchrist and Brett Lee, will felicitate young cricketers at Cricket Club of India. Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar will also attend this function.
He will also visit the memorial of 26/11 terror attack victims at Taj Krishna Hotel.
He will move to New Delhi late in the evening where a nuclear deal is in the list of probable.
Abbott had earlier said in Parliament, “I am hoping to sign a nuclear co-operation agreement that will enable uranium sales by Australia to India,” on the eve of his visit to India.
