Award for saving train, bridge

unnamedMinister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu presented a cheque of Rs 50,000 to Ashwani Kumar, keyman of a gang on pathankot – Amritsar section, Firozpur division, Northern Railway, for his alertness and courage in detecting a bomb and saving the lives of hundreds of passengers in Punjab. On July 27, terrorists planted a bomb on a bridge near Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district. Kumar detected the bomb and ran in the direction from where train No 54612 was approaching the bridge. He managed to stop the train before the bridge and saved hundreds of passengers including a major bridge. A major mishap was thus averted. Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, Chairman, Railway Board, Member Engineering, Railway Board and G M, Northern Railway were present. A citation was also read on the occasion.
