Saturday, December 6 was the 22ndanniversary of Babri Masjid demolition and it has been passed off peacefully in Hyderabad. The day has been marked with shutdown, protests and meetings.
Several parts of Hyderabad observed shutdown after it was called by some Muslim groups. The business establishments, shops, educational institutions remained closed. Most crowded areas like Charminar, Koti witnessed much less rush than the normal.
The shutdown was called by the political parties Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) and supported by several social welfare groups and NGOs.
Several youth have been arrested in an attempt to take a protest rally in Moghalpura near Charminar. The youth were raising slogans demanding reconstruction of Babri Masjid at the same place.
Some Right wings and saffron groups announced to celebrate the day as ‘Vijay Diwas’ or Day of Victory.
