Cases against Big B, Maduri, Junta
Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ramvilas Pasvan has announced that a new legislation will be introduced shortly to take stern action and punish with life sentence those promoting supply of harmful food items. His statement came in the wake of supply of Maggie noodles which were found to be harmful to consumers by several State governments. Even America imposed certain restrictions on Nesle products. It ordered for control of salt and artificial flavours in 250 Nesle products. Cases against film stars Amitab Bachchan, Maduri Dixit and Preeti Junta were also booked for promoting Maggie noodles in several advertisements. The product was banned in UP, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Bihar and Uttarakhand as the samples were found to be unsafe by the Food Safety Authority after examination.
The Kejriwal government also banned stating that Maggie noodles were not safe and the Delhi health minister was ready to fly to Switzerland to examine the Nesle products. It was revealed in the lab tests that it contained 17 times more lead and the monosodium glutmate chemical was used more than required which affected the health of consumers. Maggie noodles were found to be unsafe for addict children.
