Under the new excise policy of the State Government, the Telangana Excise Department asked the distillery companies, retail liquor shops and bars to establish the advanced bar coding and tracking system introduced by the department. The department set a deadline of November 30 for completing the task.
The department also warned the companies and shops violating the rule would be sealed.
The distillery companies should replace the paper logos with 2D holograms under the new guidelines. The retail liquor shops and bars should have a computer, scanner and printer to keep tracking of sales of liquor by capturing the barcode and holograms.
The 15 distillery companies in Telangana have been mandated to carry a 2D hologram with six layers of security system which will contain all the information of the product. The aim is to control the illicit liquor supplied through Maharashtra and Chattisgarh.
The policy was though adopted in 2012, it was not in practice anytime.
