The Lodha Committee suggested that the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) be brought under the purview of Right to Information Act. The Committee made some valid suggestions to streamline the BCCI and IPL. Now, as the BCCI is covered under Societies Act, it need not give any information of its functioning to the government. Moreover BCCI is not receiving any funds from the Sports ministry.
But the Committee felt that people had a right to know about the functioning of the BCCI and hence be brought under RTI. The Committee in its recommendations also suggested that betting be legalised and Self Declaration Act be made for this purpose. Another important recommendation is that only such a player who played many tests should be made chairman of the Selection Committee.
