As many as 47 opposition members were suspended from AP Assembly today after a heated debate over the alleged Amaravati land scam for well over three hours. Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy has tried to put the government on the mat but an equally combative Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu turned the tables on him. “You have named two of my cabinet colleagues ( P Narayana and Prattipati Pulla Rao) who acquired lands through benami deals in Amaravati. If you have proof, prove the charges and I will dismiss them from the cabinet right now. If you don’t have the proof, say sorry to the series of articles in your paper Sakshi” Naidu threw the gauntlet on to Jagan.
The opposition leader has read out three to four names who were considered as benamis of the ministers but could not provide concrete evidence against them. Instead, he demanded CBI enquiry over the scam. Jagan has also charged that Chandrababu resorted to “insider trading” to benefit his party-men and also persons close to him.
“At first, Naidu gave the impression that the capital would come up at Nagarjuna University and later at Agiripalli. After his people bought lands for throwaway prices from the ryots, he announced that the Capital will be constructed at Tullur. He knew it quite well in advance that the Capital will come up at Tullur and facilitated ‘his people’ to buy lands which is nothing but ‘insider trading’” Jagan slammed.
Naidu rebutted the charges and rejected the demand for an enquiry. Moreover, he ‘directed’ that ‘either Jagan should show the evidence or apologize and till then the House will not function’
The House witnessed uproarious scenes and nothing was audible for some time.
Later the minister for Assembly affairs, Y Ramakrishnudu has moved resolution to suspend 47 members.
