BJP Damaging Image of Maharashtra, Playing Double Standards on Shivaji: Sharad Pawar

Sharad-PawarSharad Pawar, chief of the Nationalist Congress Party has taken on the Centre-ruling BJP on using the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in election campaigning.

Pawar accused BJP of using double standards on Shivaji. He alleged that BJP teaches Shivaji was a looter, in Schools of Gujarat and here in Maharashtra, the party is using his name to grab votes.

Pawar, during his speech at Yeola in Nasik district, said, “They never even celebrated Shiv Jayanti and suddenly they have realised the importance of Shivaji Maharaj. All this is for votes only.”

He further said, “BJP was well aware that it would not be able to reach out to the masses using its so-called icons. That’s why they are using Shivaji Maharaj’s name and seeking people’s blessings.”

“He did it for a noble cause. But the irony is that in the history book of the Gujarati, Maharaj is called a ‘looter’. It is an insult and people should be careful before voting for such people,” Pawar said.

“By publishing anti-Maharashtra advertisements, BJP is damaging the image of the state. We can understand politics and election campaign, but one should destroy the reputation of a state for the sake of campaign”, Pawar further attacked BJP.
