After setting record win in the assembly elections of Haryana and Maharashtra, the Centr-ruling Bharatiya Janata Party had to face a setback in Nagaland where it lost Naga People’s Front. The NPF candidate Neiphrezo Keditsu retained the Northern Angami-II seat. The seat went to bypoll after the former CM for three terms and MLA from the seat for five consecutive terms Neiphiu Rio got elected for Lok Sabha.
Keditsu polled 9,909 votes while his rival candidate Lhoungu secured 6,864 votes.
the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government headed by T.R. Zeilang is supported by BJP with its alone member in the 60-seat assembly.
Responding to the loss, the BJP state president M Chuba said, “We have lost the by-election, but the party has morally won as the party candidate has managed to get more votes than expected in a constituency which was represented by Rio”.
