‘Amma’ seems no more a simple name, it is turning out to be a brand now in Tamil Nadu. On Friday, the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced ‘Amma Cement’ to help the poor to fight the rising prices of cement.
Tamil Nadu government has launched a series of schemes in the recent past under the name ‘Amma’, the nick name of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
A Amma Cement bag of 50 kg is priced at Rs 190 under this scheme. Maximum of 750 bags can be utilised by an individual to built a house of 1,500 sq. ft. while to construct a 100 sq. ft. house, 50 bags will be provided.
The official release says, “the plan is that two lakh metric tonne of cement would be procured from private cement manufacturers every month. It will be sold through 470 godowns spreading across corporations, municipalities, town panchayats and panchayat unions in the state“.
