Bribery- black money linkage seen

CURRENCY_NOTES_1731406fThe rationale behind the massive increase in black money was heavy rise in corrupt practices, which was going unabated across the country. Financial experts were of the opinion that black money can be brought under check with the control of corruption which allows lakhs of rupees changing hands. With this kind of administrative lapses crores of rupees has been going unaccounted. This is the root-cause of black money, say experts. Gullible people and the educated class have been following the same route to get their works fructified in the government offices. Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Bureau has been time again reminding people not to encourage bribe as it is also a crime. But their advice falls on deaf ears as there seems to be no element of credibility enjoyed by the ACB. People lost faith in the ACB also because scams after scams were unearthed involving crores and crores of rupees kickbacks were linked up with public funds. There is no check anywhere.

In towns people were offering bribe to the tune of Rs 4400 yearly while in the village level Rs 2900 is shelled down in the form of bribe yearly. This process also gave rise to brokers who are on the prowl. They act as a bridge between the victim and the officers.  Their percentage is fixed depending on the type of work and the amount involved. The tragedy is even the road side vendors selling ground nut or pea nuts are not spared. They spend 13 percent of their income monthly. The National Council of Applied Economic Research in a survey made in Hyderabad, Patna, Lucknow, Bhuvaneshwar and Chennai pointed out that citizens in their haste to get several works done were offering bribe. It was revealed that to get any work materialised in any government office one shall have to cough up cash.  Otherwise the related files would be kept under the wraps of the officials. The only alternative was to bribe the officials and get their transfers, jobs among others, done with no loss of time. By and large greasing palms of the officers concerned even to leak out certain decisions of the government is the order of the day. There seems to be no other go except bribing.
