Budget Disappoints Farmers in Khammam

KhammamThe farmers in Khammam are not happy with the budget as the government announced to allocate Rs. 25 Crore to the second phase of SRSP.The farmers argue that atleast Rs. 60 Crore would have been allocated to the SRSP in the budget. They further says that Tirumalayapalem mandal of Khammam would receive water only if the government spends more on the SRSP.

“The allocation to the project in Khammam is not adequate. In fact, the government had not conducted proper study on the projects in the district”, said R Ranga Rao, farmers’ association leader.

The Rajivsagar-Dummugudem lift irrigation project, a Rs. 2,000 Crore plan of which Rs. 900 Crore have been spent by the previous governments, received only Rs. 11 Crore this time. The plan is a major lift irrigation project, to lift water from Godavari to supply to the dry lands.
