Cabinet panel meets, may suggest legal course

trsCabinet committee on Krishna water allocation row has met in Hyderabad under the chairmanship of T Harish Rao, the Irrigation minister and discussed further course of action on the Tribunal’s verdict. It has reportedly deliberated on going to Supreme Court against the verdict. A case has already been pending on Krishna water sharing and it is better to refer the issue to the apex court. The need to include four riparian states in the award is necessary following bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, and the argument shall centre around clause 89 of the award, the meeting felt.

Ministers Jagadish Reddy, P Srinivasa Reddy, T Nageswara Rao, J Krishna Rao along with R Vidyasagara Rao attended the meeting.

The tribunal has rejected the pleas of AP and Telangana and refused to alter the judgement given in 2013. It made it clear that the water that was allocated to the combined state shall now be shared by both the states.
