Capital in Vijayawada Region, Announces Naidu in Assembly

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday made an official announcement in the state that the new capital of Andhra Pradesh will be around the Vijayawada region.

The Sivramakrishnan committee report was tabled in the Legslative Assembly on Thursday. The report was earlier submitted to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on August 27.

Sivaramakrishnan said, “It is the Chief Minister and AP Government prerogative to decide its capital. I don’t want to enter into any controversies, and I cannot comment to say it is either good or bad decision. I reiterate it is their prerogative to decide the issue more appropriately, whatever my committee felt (on new capital) it is everybody’s knowledge”.

The committee received representations and about half of them were in favour of Vijayawada but the committee proposed to build 3 capitals in different regions.

Hyderabad will be the joint capital of two states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, till 2024.
