The Supreme Court has asked the CBI Chief Ranjit Sinha to respond to the court with his statement explaining why he should not be removed from his post. Sinha has been accused for allegedly trying to protect companies and people who his agency is investigating on criminal charges. The apex court has called for the next hearing on September 19.
Petition by senior advocate and Aam Aadmi Party leader Prashant Bhushan has accused 61-year-old sinha of abusing his office as head of the country’s premier investigating agency.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)had found that the country lost Lakh of Crore due to the allotment of licenses without auctions and as a result of a free-hand given to crony capitalism.
Mr Bhushan has asked the Supreme Court to view the diary that recorded the visitors to Mr Sinha’s home. The list, which has been leaked to the media, allegedly includes executives from Reliance Telecom, which has been charged by the CBI of offering bribes in exchange for an out-of-turn mobile network license.
