Centre Denies any Call Made to the Governor

V6Upon the order of the Supreme Court to explain on alleged phone calls to Uttarakhand governor asking him to resign, the centre today denied any such calls made to the governor.

“There was no move to remove Uttrakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi,” said Home Minister Rajnath Singh. He also added that a detailed response is being prepared to place on the table of the Supreme Court in the next hearing.

Aziz Qureshi accused the Home Secretary Anil Goswamy that the home ministry official called him twice, once in late July and next in early August, asking the governor to quit, if not, he will be sacked.

Mr. Qureshi took the office of Uttarakhand governor in 2012. He argued in the court that only the President of India has the right to remove a governor.

An array of governors have been sacked after Narendra Modi took as the Prime Minister in May this year.
