Union government held a high-level meeting today and reviewed the security threat and preparedness of the forces. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has called an emergency meeting in which National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and NSG chief attended.
Delhi and Gujarat were put on high alert after Intelligence reports of ten suicide bombers of Pak-based terror groups have sneaked into India. The IB warning further stated that possible strikes on Shiva ratri day at key places were reportedly planned. The NSG and Central paramilitary forces have taken positions at RGIA, key defence establishments, railway and bus stations etc in Telangana as well.
Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Naseer Khan Janjuahas informed his Indian counterpart about the group of fidayeen from the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e Muhammed on a major mission in Gujarat.
All public functions to celebrate Shivratri at the historical Somnath temple have been cancelled.
Police have also heightened security at another historical pilgrimage centre, Dwarka, and Bhavnath in Junagadh where a huge fair is organised on Shivratri.
In Delhi, security at public places such as malls, cinema halls, markets and along the Delhi borders was stepped up.
