Hyderabad: The CM KCR urged the centre to allot the additional Haj quota with a slot of 2000 in the state. The union minister for external affairs sushma swaraj expressing disappointment over the meager quota allotted for the state. In his letter, Rao pointed out, “Last year, the quota of slots allotted to the combined state of AP was 5,580 and subsequently after allotment of cancelled seats etc., a total of 6,043 pilgrims went to Haj from AP.
It is very surprising that the quota has now been reduced to 4,945 slots (2,700 slots allotted to Telangana and 2,245 slots to Andhra Pradesh). About 15,419 people have applied for the 1,223 slots left open after reservation i.e., more than 12 people vying for a single slot.”
