One of the most influential leaders in Telangana and former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Chennamaneni Vidya Sagar Rao has been nominated as the 22ndGovernor of Maharashtra. Mr Rao, 73, is also recognised as a close aide of PM Narendra Modi.
Born in a small village, Nagaram of Konaraopet mandal in Karimnagar district, Mr Rao was elected to Lok Sabha from Karimnagar Parliament constituency twice in 12th and 13th Lok Sabha. He was also elected MLA from Metpally assembly seat from 1985 to 1998.
Mr Rao is the younger brotherof communist leader Ch Rajeshwar rao and uncle of TRS MLA Ch Ramesh.
An advocate by profession, Ch Vidyasagar Rao studied science and law from Osmania University. He was a prominent campus leader of ABVP.
