Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu has for the first time said that his government is fully committed to supporting the Andhra students who opt to study in Telangana region. “I have given an open call for discussion and cooperation with regard to the fees reimbursement issue for Andhra students. I have given commitment to contribute 58% of the fees, but the Telangana government has showed no interest in my offers. I say again that the lives of students are not an issue to politicize. I am saying now again that we will protect the interests of Andhra students at all costs. The onus of declaring the domicile of Andhra students will be on the Telangana government,” said Andhra CM Babu.
Babu’s change of heart may have been caused by Telangana CM KCR’s yesterday’s comments on Andhra’s lack of commitment for the future of their students. “The boasted claims of Babu on building a Singapore like capital city are funny in the backdrop of his neglect towards the future of their students,” said KCR yesterday at a meeting in Prof. Jayashankar Agricultural University.
Andhra Education minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has also spoken on the issue and said that despite the litigant behavior of Telangana government, the EAMCET admissions process has begun in Andhra today. Telangana will follow suit in two, three days after deciding on the issuance of local certificates, said Ganta.
