The CCI put a check on the middlemen in cotton trade by issuing identity cards to the cotton farmers. Now the cotton farmers have to produce their id cards and sell their produce of cotton directly to the CCI. Earlier the middlemen lured the cotton farmers into selling their produce to them (middlemen) at lesser price and they sold the same to the CCI at the support
Hence the poor cotton farmer was deprived of his rightful support price. With the changed circumstances the direct sale of cotton by the farmers increased from 5 percent to 50 percent.
