Untitled-5Senior Congress leader and MLC Mohammed Ali Shabbir on wenesday claimed that about 3,600 cheques issued towards Chief Minister Relief Fund during President’s Rule in undivided Andhra Pradesh were not honored by banks.

Shabbir was addressing to media when he claimed, “the beneficiaries were issued cheques on different dates in the month of May this year following clearance of applications by a committee appointed by Governor ESL Narasimhan. Since all those cheques were valid for one month only after the date of issue, they expired. Consequently, poor patients who felt relieved after getting the cheques, were cheated and pushed into economic crisis”, at the office of the Congress Legislature Party.

He further said that the Governor ESLNarsimhan asked him to bring the matter in written . “Today I have written a letter to the Governor while enclosing a copy of few cheques which got dishonoured. What I have mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg. At least 3,600 cheques issued towards the CMRF under Governor’s directions during the President’s Rule were not honoured for different reasons,” he said.

He further asked, “We file cases against individuals or companies when cheuqes issued by them gets bounced. What should people do when a cheque issued by the government gets dishonoured?”
