Chidambaram defers from India decision on Lanka

India should have voted against Sri Lanka in the UNHRC resolution on human rights violations in the country, said union finance minister P Chidambaram, opposing the abstention stand the UPA government took over the matter. He termed the UNHRC resolution ‘a watered down one,’ yet India should have supported it as 23 countries supported it, he said. The emotionally connected issue will have huge political implications in Tamil Nadu, hence the ‘personal’ opinion from finance minister!
